الكعبة
Al-Masjid al-Ḥarām
The Kaʿbah
The first house appointed for mankind, rebuilt by Ibrāhīm and Ismāʿīl. It is the qiblah of every prayer on earth and the centre of Ṭawāf.
What each place is, and how to conduct yourself there. Guidance for the pilgrim — not a ruling.

Al-Masjid al-Ḥarām
The first house appointed for mankind, rebuilt by Ibrāhīm and Ismāʿīl. It is the qiblah of every prayer on earth and the centre of Ṭawāf.
الحجر الأسود
Eastern corner of the Kaʿbah
The Black Stone marks the start and end of each circuit. If the crowd prevents you from touching or kissing it, raise your hand towards it and say Allāhu akbar — that is sufficient.
حجر إسماعيل
North-west of the Kaʿbah
The semi-circular enclosure counted as part of the Kaʿbah. Ṭawāf must be performed outside it; praying within it is praying inside the House.
مقام إبراهيم
Beside the Kaʿbah
The station of Ibrāhīm, where he stood while raising the walls. After Ṭawāf, pray two rakʿahs behind it where the crowd allows, otherwise anywhere in the Masjid.
الصفا والمروة
Within the Masjid
The two hillocks between which Hājar searched for water. Saʿī is seven courses beginning at Ṣafā and ending at Marwah.
المسجد النبوي
Madīnah al-Munawwarah
The Prophet's Masjid, containing the Rawḍah and his blessed grave. Visiting is a Sunnah of great virtue, distinct from the rites of Ḥajj.
